Environmental Policy

As a Garden Centre, Knights believes that it benefits the environment simply by encouraging people to grow plants. However we also, where possible, try to reduce our own environmental footprint and so currently have the following policies in place:

  • Our green garden waste is composted and used as compost/mulch around the sites

  • Strip lighting has been replaced with low magnesium triphosphor flourescent tubes which are more efficient

  • We recycle our card, glass, paper, wood and as much plastic as possible

  • All our printer toner cartridges are recycled

  • We promote the sale of reduced peat products in line with Government

  • Our timber products are FSC Certified where possible

  • We collect rain water from some of our roofs to help with plant irrigation

  • We actively encourage our customers to recycle their Christmas trees which we chip and use for mulching

  • We have a policy to source products/plants from local suppliers and where possible ensure that they are themselves ethically sound

  • We are pro-active in using ecological control around the garden centres

  • Our literature is printed on material from managed forests, using vegetable based inks, and water-based solvents
