February Tips

When the soil is damp, mulch fruit trees with a 3 inch deep ring of leaf mould or garden compost.

Top dress fruit bushes with slow-release, potassium-rich fertiliser to feed plants for the forthcoming season.

Lift and divide Snowdrops if you want to move them or create more plants.

Start chitting early potatoes, stand them in egg boxes in a bright frost free place.

Broad beans, early peas, carrots and spinach can be sown if the ground isn’t frozen or too wet.

Prune Wisteria, Hydrangeas, Buddleia, Roses and winter Jasmine.

Sow sweet peas.
